There are three most important things you need:
1. ENGLISH LANGUAGE

3. SEAMAN VISA (for all U.S. residents)
Once you reach an agreement with a cruise ship employees, must apply for a transit Seaman C1, D1 and B2 visitor visas at the Embassy of the United States. Most Cruise ships visit only United States ports of call.

The C1, D1 and B2 visas allow you to enter the United States for a limited time when the ship enters a U.S. port, usually 30 days:
> The visa is C1 for mariners and allows you to work in U.S. ports for a limited number of hours or days, and
> D1 is the transit visa allows ports U.S..
> U.S. Visas B2 tourist are "visitor visas" and are required for citizens of countries not included in the Visa Waiver Program.
o All foreign nationals wishing to visit the United States for leisure or tourism are normally eligible for a visa B2 tourist.
o The maximum length of stay for visitor visa holders B2 is 6 months.
Please contact line cruise or agency directly to find out the visa requirements are specific to their country of origin in the use of cruise ships.
